Tempo SlowMo is an ideal practice tool for musicians, dancers, language students and fitness enthusiasts. Using technology developed for our Chord Detector and Chord Tutor apps, Tempo SlowMo’s sleek and simple design helps you practice playing songs, dance routines or learning a new language by slowing down or speeding up an audio tracks BPM (beats per minute) without affecting its pitch.

Just hit the Music button within the app to reveal the available audio import options. Import an audio file from your iPod music library, Dropbox account or over WiFi network directly to your device. Tempo SlowMo will then load the audio file which you can then play, pause, slow down and speed up to your hearts content.

Tempo SlowMo also has a feature allowing you to drop markers at any point in the track so that you can quickly skip back to that point if there is a particular bit of a track you are trying to master. Special Loop Markers allow you to loop part of a track if you need to master a specific section. Start and End Track Markers allow you to override the point where a track begins and ends.

As well as being able to import audio files from different sources you can also make your own recording and save it for future use.

Export features are now provided as of version 1.3.0. You can export the changes you made to an audio file to MP4 and upload it to Dropbox or send it as an email attachment.

Please note that DRM protected audio files are not supported by this app.

Great little app. How to remove a marker?

Ignore that….I’ve worked out you have to flick it off. Again… great app for practicing the drums with AC/DC

At 100% speed and 0 semitones change in pitch (playing the song in it’s original key and speed), many songs come out much slower and at a lower pitch. How to fix this bug?

Reply
Simon 13-12-2011, 08:36

Hi Tina,

Thanks for pointing this defect out. We have managed to recreate the problem and have fixed it in v1.2.1 which is currently with Apple for review. The next version should be available on the App Store within the next 5 days.

Thanks for your support.

I cannot get the app to go below 50% tempo, and the BPM doesn’t seem to do anything when tapped. Am I missing something here, or have these features not installed properly?

Reply
Sid Mitchell 15-12-2011, 21:32

Have figured out the BPM setting now. It is not immediately apparent that you have to keep tapping until a value appears.
Still can’t fathom out why my change of tempo is restricted, however, but I am beginning to warm to this app!

Reply
Simon 20-12-2011, 18:40

Hi Sid, thanks for the comment.

50% of the original tempo is the lowest it will go, 200% is the maximum.

Regarding the BPM Tapper, it needs at least 10 taps to determine a reasonably accurate BPM value. The first tap will set the tempo back to 100% if its not already there. So then tap at least 10 times to the beat of the music and you will see a BPM value appear to the left of the button. Once you stop tapping you will be asked if you want to use that BPM value. If you select YES then the BPM value will be used instead of the percentage tempo at the top of the page. If you want to switch between percentage value and BPM value just tap on the tempo display at the top of the page.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any further problems.

Aat Vogelaar 14-08-2012, 18:46

I keep taping, but I do no see any BPM value. The first tap set the tempo back to 100%. After the first tap I keep tapping, but nothing happens. Do I something wrong or is this a bad application?

Reply
Simon 14-08-2012, 19:41

You need to tap on the BPM tapper button at least 10 times in order to generate an average BPM value. Once the value has appeared to the left of the tapper button you can stop tapping at any time. You should then be presented with the option to use that BPM value.

I can’t seem to turn off or eliminate markers. Any pointers?

Reply
Simon 03-02-2012, 09:32

Hi Doug,

To delete a marker just press and hold the marker you want to delete for about 2 seconds.

Reply
Doug 03-02-2012, 21:19

Solved that problem. What does the markers button do?

Reply
Simon 03-02-2012, 21:19

The markers allow you to quickly skip back or forward to a particular point in a track. So if you are trying to learn part of a song, you can quickly skip back to that point by touching the marker.

Soon you will be able to place loop markers, which will allow you to loop a section of a track that you are trying to learn.

Mike 06-02-2012, 14:31

What is the deal with these markers??!!!! FRUSTRATING!!! I’ve tried everything to remove markers I’ve already placed but nothing works.

Reply
Simon 06-02-2012, 19:24

Hi Mike, thanks for your message.

To remove a marker press and hold on the marker you want to delete for 2 seconds. You will see it grow and vanish.

I’m currently working on changing the markers. In the current version of the app it allows you to drop multiple markers in the same place, so if you dropped multiple markers in the same place it may look like the mark isn’t being deleted.

Sorry for any frustration caused, as I said I’m looking to revise markers in a upcoming release.

Reply
Mike 06-02-2012, 19:28

Thank you. That was exactly the problem. I guess I had several markers so when it looked like I wasn’t deleting them I guess I was but there were more in each spot than I realized.

Love this Tempo Slow app. It’s fantastic.

The balance control feature doesn’t show up in the purchase list – how do I access this feature?

Reply
Simon 09-02-2012, 09:11

Hi Shane, I got a bit ahead of myself when updating this page. The balance control is in version 1.2.2 which is currently with Apple for review. I’m expecting it to be released in the next few days.

Reply
Shane 09-02-2012, 09:30

Thanks for the quick reply! No problem, it happens. Once that feature is online, and one side of a stereo track can be isolated, this app will be way ahead of most of the competition. Well done!

Reply
Simon 14-02-2012, 12:00

Hi Shane, Tempo SlowMo v1.2.2 is available now with the optional balance control and AirPlay support. The app now also supports AirPlay, background playing and track repeat.

Using version 1.2.3 on iPhone 4s. When the app is idle it seems to chew up processor time. The only way to stop it is to delete it from the task list. any chance this can be fixed?

Reply
Simon 01-03-2012, 08:20

Hi Tom, yes we have noticed that Tempo SlowMo is using 1% to 2% of CPU while paused and in the background. We have corrected this and will be fixed in v1.2.4 maintenance release which should be available in about a week.

Thanks for your app which have a very good quality timestretch…
I can’t find the Dropbox and wifi import functions… Are they available yet ?

Simon 30-04-2012, 11:12

Hi Domi, thanks for your message. To see the Dropbox and WiFi import options just press and hold the iPod button for 2-3 seconds and the options will appear. Not obvious I know but this will improve in v1.3 when its finally ready.

Great !
(sorry, i just realize that tip is already mentioned on the Appstore in your app notes…)

I’m going to leave a very positive 🙂 evaluation on the Appstore…

By the way, i love the design, orange and dark ; the tempo wheel, very effective (not too slow and not too fast for adjusting tempo to the precise tempo wanted)…

I was going to ask you to put a “Return to original tempo” function, and i found it : just clic once on “Tap” button !

Maybe 2 ideas for the future :
– let the timestretch go below 50% (even if the sound quality becomes bad… at least user would have the choice)
– create a little help text within the app, with all the tips

In order to support your fine work (both on technical/musical and design fields), i just have bought the 2.39 € adverts remove option…and all the musical options 🙂

Have a nice musical day 😉

Reply
Domi 30-04-2012, 12:25

…and another idea :
– 1 clic on the right part of the tempo wheel automatically set the tempo to the next round 10 up value (for example : tempo start value is 82 – one right clic sets it to 90 – another right clic sets to 100… etc.
– and 1 clic on the left part of the tempo wheel would set the tempo to the next round 10 down value (tempo start value is 82 – one left clic sets it to 80 – another left clic sets to 70… etc.

It would offer the possibility to quickly go to round 10 values, without taking space on the app screen…
Other solution would be to add 2 buttons : -10 and +10

Top of the top would be to allow user choose in Settings his own convenient decrement/increment value : -/+ 10, -/+5, -/+2 bpm…

Hi, I use your app for walking excercise. Setting my favorite music to the pase of my steps. It works great.
However, I have a problem with using a ‘Playlist’. I understand (I’m 63) a playlist is a selection of my favorite songs, created in iTunes. If I select this playlist in TEMPO I get the list and can only play one at the time.
It should play the whole list? What is the problem?

Reply
Simon 18-07-2012, 12:40

Hi Helmut, thanks for your message. Unfortunately Tempo SlowMo doesn’t currently support playlists created in iTunes. However in the next version playlists will be supported. The next version should be available within the next few weeks.

Thanks for your support.

Can you tell me how to use the markers? I would like to set the parameters for starting and ending a song and have it repeat between the start and stop. Thanks in advance, Mitchell

Reply
Simon 23-07-2012, 07:23

Hi Mitchell. The markers at the moment are pretty basic, they only allow you to skip to that position and unfortunately don’t allow looping. The marker system is my next area of attack and I will definitely be implementing looping as part of that update.

I am trying to load a song to play and to slow down. I’m loading it from my itunes library by spelling it and ssearching it and finding it. I touch the tune, and the tempo’slomo says it’s loading, but nothing seems to be happening. How long should I expect it to take?

Reply
Simon 15-08-2012, 07:44

Hi Bev, Thanks for your message. Do you use iTunes Match? Is the track you are attempting to load actually on your device or is it an iCloud track? If its an iCloud track then Tempo SlowMo will have to download which can take some time depending you connection speed, whether you are on mobile network or wifi. Does the track load ok from within your devices iPod music player? Sorry for all the questions but it will help me understand the problem you are experiencing.

Reply
Bev 15-08-2012, 16:42

I can use the track in my iPod, so I think it is IN the device. It is listed, along with some other tracks I can’t seem to download with a number at the beginning of the track name. I am clicking on the track, so I’m not mistyping the name, though. When I search for the track name for Tempo-Slomo, I am typing the name, without the number, and then clicking on the item the search has found. I don’t use iTunes Match, that I know of, anyway.

Reply
Simon 17-08-2012, 12:45

Hi Bev, so it sounds like you are only having problems with tracks that have names starting with a number? Can you confirm that tracks not beginning with a number are working ok within Tempo SlowMo?

Reply
Bev Neilson 18-08-2012, 16:49

Hi
I’ve just tested a bunch of unnumbered songs from the playlist, and some numbered ones. All the unnumbered ones work and some of the numbered ones work. The numbered ones that don’t work, I’ve loaded from a CD and maybe I’ve done something weird when bringing them into my iPod. I think I used Dropbox to get them from the computer in my home that has a disc reader to the small laptop that sincs with my iPod. As I said before, these tracks play directly on my iPod, and I just double checked that – it is the case for both CD uploaded tracks. Unfortunately, both sets of tracks are ones which I would like to slow down to play along with on my accordion!

Simon 18-08-2012, 17:34

Hi Bev, thanks for the information, looks like we are starting to narrow down the problem. Would you be able to email me one of the tracks that you are having problems with? I can then test it and find out why Tempo SlowMo is objecting and hopefully fix. Please email a problem track to me at feedback@chord-detector.com

Bev Neilson 20-08-2012, 05:08

I was going to try to reload the tracks to see if I goofed that up somehow, but as I was preparing, I noticed that the tracks I’m trying to use are in aiff format. Does this make a difference? Do I have to convert them to MP3 to use them with SlowMo? If so, could you direct me what to use to do it?

Reply
Bev Neilson 06-10-2012, 17:29

I finally got around to trying to convert an aiff track to MP3, and now SloMo works perfectly. It seemed to try forever to load the aiff file, but now it happens instantly in MP3. Thanks for you help with this problem.

Simon 07-10-2012, 15:17

Hi Bev, I’m glad that worked for you, unfortunately I haven’t had time yet to look at the problematic files you kindly provided. At least we have a workaround for the time being.

Hi, great app! Especially the latest version. I really like being able to save and export via Dropbox.
I have 2 questions: Is it possible to activate “play” from the markers page? Also, how do I delete a track that I’ve recorded with the recording feature?

Thanks,
Erik

Reply
Simon 09-09-2012, 11:57

Hi Erik, You are not the first person to ask about being able to play/pause the track from the markers view. In the current version the answer is no. However I have added a play/pause button on this view in v1.3.1 which is currently with apple for review. Hopefully it will be available within the next week. Regarding your second question, you can delete a recording by swiping your finger from right to left over the recording you wish to delete and a delete button should be revealed. Hope this helps. If you are able to leave feedback via the App Store that would be much appreciated.

Reply
Simon 10-09-2012, 07:40

Hi Beth, You aren’t doing anything wrong. Unfortunately there is a bug in the latest release of Tempo SlowMo affecting older iOS versions, causing the issue you are seeing. I submitted a fix to Apple for review a couple of days ago, so with any luck the fix should be available within the next few days. Sorry for any inconvenience caused by this issue. For information could you please let me know what type of device you have and the version of iOS you are running?

Great app! Hands down the best of its type! FAR clearer at very slow settings and the best UI!

I wonder if you could set the dial on the track time page to allow finer control like the speed dial has. Perhaps a toggle to switch from how it is now to a finer-tuning setting, even? Thanks!

I just downloaded the newest version of Tempo Slowmo.
My iPod touch has the software version 4.2.1. Because it’s an old iPod, I#m not able to get any update.
Could you tell me if the fix you mentioned in your answer to Beth is already done, or is my iPod just too old fpr the use of it?
Thank you for your time and support.
All the best.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused and thanks for your support.

Sorry for the delay of my answer. But meanwhile, my iPod broke down. So it took me a while to let it be fixed. Thank you very much for the update. Now it’s working perfectly!!
Ii got another question: I got myself an iPad 2, and I’m using Tempo SlowMo on it as well. I did a recording yesterday, and can’t find a way to delete it. I tried to find some kind of user manual, but did not find none. Maybe you can tell me where to search.
Thank you very much for your time and support, and of course for your great app, which is definately the best working on the market.

Hi
I use The tap Tool. After 10 taps i get a bpm number. Ok
But there is no Chance to Rallye change The Speed of The Song.
I can Flip Switch The Top 100% to my bp, but dort get any result on Speed changing.
What to do ?

Reply
Simon 22-11-2012, 17:48

Hi Markus. The BPM tapper will enable you to determine the original BPM of a track. After 10 or so taps it will give you a BPM value and ask if you want to accept it. If you press “yes” the tempo readout at the top of the screen will change from a percentage tempo to the BPM value. If you now turn the tempo wheel you will see the BPM value change as you speed up or slow down the track. Hope that clears things up?

Is it possible to store this so I can come back to it again in the event I make changes to these settings?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Reply

Hi Lea, thanks for your comment. Only the current settings are stored against each track, there is currently no mechanism within the app to save the state and come back to it. Its an interesting idea though I will look into it and see if I can implement something like this in a future release.

Hi, currently I’m listening to music using the playlist in your app which is pointed to music app from apple. I like to listen to them only onetime and would remove them. I cannot remove them in the playlist of your app but need to switch to the music app.
It sounds that your inapp feature for paylist is more for track stuff? When buying your playlist feature will I be able to load or copy music into an own, new playlist and delete those which I’m already listen to?
btw I am SquareDance, therefore listening once is often enough. The app is really great to learn new level i.e. using stop, rewind, slow down, …

Reply
Simon 13-02-2013, 20:59

Hi Katja, thanks for getting in contact. Forgive me I’m not sure I completely understand your question. The playlist add-on will allow you to create a playlist in the app from tracks imported from your iPod music library, Dropbox etc. The playlist add-on essentially allows you to queue up tracks to be played sequentially, rather than loading and playing one track at a time as you do in the core product. I’m not sure what you mean when you refer to deleting tracks. The app won’t remove tracks from your iPod library or Dropbox if that’s what you mean.

Let me know if you need any further clarification.

Katja 14-02-2013, 06:01

Hi Simon, thanks for answering.
It is a pitty. Podcasts are marked after I listen to them but for music I cannot see. Of course most people are not interested to know whether they already listen to a music file.
Therefore I created in my former music app a playlist with all my SquareDance music and after listen to a file I remove/delete that from the playlist. The list is going shorter to see the remaining music.
More clear now?

Reply
Simon 18-02-2013, 20:37

Hi Katja, I think I understand your requirement now. So as I understand it you would like a track removed from a playlist once it has been listened to once, much like you see with pod cast players? This may be something I can implement but I will have to make it a feature that needs to be turned on via the settings as I’m sure most users won’t want this feature enabled by default. I will look into it and see if this is feasible.

Katja 17-02-2013, 08:44

Hi Simon, I just load some SquareDance songs by wifi. This way I can delete them after I listen to them. It solves my request. But upload information are very poor as only track name is shown. Any change to get interpret as well?

Reply
Simon 18-02-2013, 20:43

Hi Katja, it is possible to manually remove an item from the playlist. You can do this by swiping from right to left over the item you want to remove and a delete button will be revealed. I will look into the issue you mentioned about the WiFi import, I agree showing the artist name as well as the track would be helpful.

HI…could you please tell me if it is possible to create more than 1 playlist…and if so how would I do it. Many thanks for your assistance. Great app!

Reply
Simon 26-03-2013, 14:32

Hi Jayne, Yes if you press the playlist button there are options to save and load playlists. So to create a new playlist first save the old one (you will be prompted to choose a name), then clear the playlist by clicking the trash icon, now you can start a new playlist. Sorry for the late response.

Great app! Im having one issue with dropbox.im using more than one dropbox account but there’s no option
to log out of dropbox. You’re stuck with the account you already signed in . I tried to unistall the from dropbox itself but the app will still look for that particular account

Hi AJ, Thanks for the feedback, I will add a Dropbox logout button to the next Tempo SlowMo release.

Simon (Admin) 02-05-2013, 09:50

Hi again AJ, just wanted to let you know that v1.3.7 of Tempo SlowMo has been released today.

I added a Dropbox unlink option to the apps settings page.

You can access the settings page from your devices main Settings, scroll to the bottom of the Settings page and you should see Tempo Slow option in the list. Click on that to see all the settings for Tempo SlowMo.

If you switch on the Dropbox Unlink option next time you start Tempo SlowMo it will be unlinked from your Dropbox account, enabling you to select another account.

Hope this helps.

Love SlowMo. Any plans for implementing Audiobus support in a future version? Audiobus is an App that takes the Audio output of one App and inputs to another App. This would allow me to plug my elec. guitar into Line6 MobilePOD (or similar) and play along with tracks in SloMo thru headphones.

Simon (Admin) 23-08-2013, 05:19

Hi yes I would like to integrate Tempo SlowMo with Audiobus. I just haven’t had the time to get around to it yet, but its definitely on the plan. I will let you know when I have more definite dates for this.

How can I create more than one playlist? I have purchased the playlist option but I want to create more than one playlist. It keeps adding tracks to the same playlist.

Simon (Admin) 23-08-2013, 05:17

Hi Robyn, thanks for getting in contact.

Yes you can have more than one playlist.

Hit the Playlist button and you will see three buttons at the bottom (load, save and clear). To save your current playlist hit the save button and it will ask you to name the playlist before it is saved. Once saved to start a new playlist hit the clear button (trash can icon) and start adding new tracks. Save the second playlist and then you can load your old playlists by hitting the load button and selecting the playlist you want to load.

Hope this helps.

Hi Simon,

I’m impressed by your app.

One small issue, disk usage of the app increases as more songs are added to the playlist – which is ok but this diskspace is not released when i delete the playlist. Is this a known issue and will there be a fix? And since my iPhone is only 16GB, my workaround is to delete the app and re-install to release diskspace.

Apart from the minor gripe, I’m enjoying your app. Thank you.

Simon (Admin) 25-08-2013, 20:42

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for getting in contact. Yes the app does cache the raw audio data for tracks loaded into Tempo SlowMo. You can configure the size of this cache and clear the cache by going to your devices settings. In the apps section of your devices settings screen you should find Tempo Slow in there somewhere. If you click on Tempo Slow you will see a host of configuration options, the cache settings are towards the end of the page.

Hope this help.

Thanks again Simon. I tried your suggestion and it works. 🙂

Is there a way to set “clearing cache on startup” as default? The option resets to off, after each restart. Anyways, like i said… very minor gripe.

Fantastic app support, truly – 5 stars !!!

Reply
Simon (Admin) 26-08-2013, 20:19

Hi Sebastian, glad it worked. Yes the current behaviour is to clear the cache the next time the app is started, it will reset to off once it has been cleared. I will look into providing an option to clear cache every time the app is started.

How do I delete songs from the import list? I have a number of songs that I don’t want on the list any longer and can’t figure out how to get them off to make room for new ones.

Hi, swipe left on the track you want to remove and a delete button should appear.

I am getting Track Load Failed errors on both my iPad and iPhone (both running iOS7) on some songs. I am not using iTunes Match and the songs I’m trying to load into Tempo are on the devices (there is no cloud symbol next to the songs). The songs were purchased via iTunes. Any suggestions of how to fix this?

Hi Eric, thanks for sending through an example track. The track you are having trouble with is DRM protected. Unfortunately Tempo SlowMo doesn’t support DRM protected tracks. The reason for this is that apps of this type need access to the raw audio data in order to do their thing and DRM prevents this. So unfortunately you will have this problem with any of your files ending with the M4P extension.

Is it possible to delete an entire playlist? In the ‘Load Playlist’ screen I discovered that a swipe right to left on a playlist name will cause a ‘Delete’ button to appear. However, tapping the ‘Delete’ button causes the entire app to close. After reopening the app and going to the ‘Load Playlist’ screen, the unwanted playlist is still there. Thanks.

Hi Simon,
I like to store a song with the markers set by me. This seems to work only for wifi area which is fine. But wifi area looks a little bit old fashion. Very small characters, no folder, no sort or filter, only name of song without date, size, ….
Is there any plan to improve that part of your app?

I love the app, and use it a lot. Just discovered something about the iPad version – the Master Volume control disappears when the iPad is docked and the line out jack is used.

Hi there
Great app, really, got me improving my drum skills exponentially.
I’ve just purchased the pitch changer option on my iPhone, but when I click on Restore Previous Purchase on my iPad, it won’t get me the pitch changer, although I’m using the same iTunes account.
Why’s that?

Reply
Simon (Admin) 21-05-2014, 18:50

Hi Winston, glad you like the app. Try the pitch changer purchase button, don’t worry if you are using the same iTunes account then you won’t be charged again, instead it should just restore the feature.

Btw, I’ll keep revealing the existence of that app to as many people as possible, so keep up the good work Simon!

Simon (Admin) 26-11-2014, 19:35

Hi Dan, can you confirm you are running v1.3.24? Go to you devices Settings and select Tempo Slow near the bottom. The version you are running will be listed there. If it isn’t 1.3.24 then you are not running the latest version. Please confirm which version you are running?

Dan 26-11-2014, 19:46

It is currently running V 1.3.23. I went to the App Store and I didn’t see a update…..just saying

tempo version 1.3.24 build 1
I faced the issue that I cannot start any song from ipad or dropbox. Tempo still offers both, I can select an entry, press done (resp “fertig” as I am German) but song is still the former one.
after a (not nice) while I found out that playlist is switched on. After switching that off, all works as expected. Is there any reasin behind that? Couldn’t there at least a hint or more visible that feature are reduced in that mode?

Hi Simon – still trying to delete songs from “songs” location on the Tempo Slow – when I swipe a song from that location it moves the screen to the play page where the song I swiped is ready to play. If I have the “playlists” on my screen the delete method you suggested works perfectly. I have many songs that I would like to delete in order to add newer songs. I appreciate any help! Thanks!!

Sorry not a reply but another query – can’t see how to raise a query…

I have been given a cd of music by my daughter’s dance teacher but I can’t get it to play on this app at all. Very annoying. Any tips please? Is this likely to be a copyright thing?

The cd itself works fine in either the cd player or on the laptop.

Reply
Simon (Admin) 30-01-2016, 14:34

Hi Liz, You could try importing the CD into iTunes and then syncing the tracks with your device. Once they are on the device they will be available in Tempo SlowMo.

DOUG 12-11-2016, 15:54

Since updating to IOS10 I have trouble importing songs from my library. Some work. Some don’t. Even songs that used to import will no longer work. “Track load failed due to unsupported format”?
Songs that I imported from CD’s to iTunes that used to load will not work.

Did IOS10 change the format or file type?

Love the App but this is frustrating?
